The condition of going on this trip is that we have secured a house of our own (not a rental) before we go. So it is sort of 2 major life experiences rolled into one.
So how do you save around $130,000 in 10 years? That's about $13,000 a year, $1084 a month. How are we going to do that? I have no idea, I am lucky to have $10 a week left.
We are changing the girls school as I am struggling to keep up with the private fees, so less pressure there. The twins will be at kindergarten next year so no more childcare fees, saving us $80 a week.

I want to start growing our own vegetables and eating for the season, lots of veggies can be regrown from scraps so this will be our starting point.
When my phone contract runs out in May I won't be renewing it, I will be going prepaid (I do still have to compare what calls, texts cost etc)
My phone phone and internet provider will be changed, I know one where I can save 40% to what I pay now.
Anything I make from selling Kaszazz or my craft products will go into replacing the stock and then straight into savings.
All $5 notes go into the money box as well as anything below 50c.

So just with the figures I know now as I cannot control how many $5 notes I get at the store etc.
I can save $120 a week, I know that's only $480 in the month but it is a stepping stone, it is progress.

If I can manage to put $75 a week into savings and my husband puts $150 a week into savings (since he earns more) that is an additional $225 a week making our savings at least $345 a week totalling at least $1380 a month ...... maybe it is possible!
It will take us lots of sacrifices and changes to be able to save the $75 and the $150, in todays world we are driven by temptation, it is easier to order pizza after a hectic day rather than cook in bulk and pull out a frozen meal. We can make the changes, we WILL make the changes, who knows as time goes on we will be able to save more, the girls will grown up and get part time jobs.
Since Claire will be 20 when we take the trip and at this stage she really wants to come I am going to ask that she pay for her flights at least, if she has a job she is more than welcome to chip in more. I figure since she is an adult by then she should have some responsibility towards the trip.

Obviously I have to make some purchases to be able to save money, I have already built the raised beds for the veggie garden but I need to compost, I need to buy a new chest freezer to make the bulk meals.
I will shop second hand where I can either on buy, swap, sell pages or Op shops. I will cut down on what we own and sell what is worth anything and donate where I can too.
I will resist the urge to buy new linen if I don't need it, unless it is broken it won't be replaced, I will not fall into the latest and greatest fads.
Money will be spent on education, after school care no doubt once I start working but once I am working we will be on a better income and that won't be possible for a while since the cost of daycare and then next year kinder hours don't make it flexible enough for me to work so 2016 I start my course for community services work and then hopefully gain employment from that as the job is flexible enough to work around my doula work.
So those are my money saving plans so far, cross your fingers we can pull this off!!
