Saving up for the trip of our dreams

The condition of going on this trip is that we have secured a house of our own (not a rental) before we go. So it is sort of 2 major life experiences rolled into one.

So how do you save around $130,000 in 10 years? That's about $13,000 a year, $1084 a month. How are we going to do that? I have no idea, I am lucky to have $10 a week left.
We are changing the girls school as I am struggling to keep up with the private fees, so less pressure there. The twins will be at kindergarten next year so no more childcare fees, saving us $80 a week.
I want to start growing our own vegetables and eating for the season, lots of veggies can be regrown from scraps so this will be our starting point.
When my phone contract runs out in May I won't be renewing it, I will be going prepaid (I do still have to compare what calls, texts cost etc)
My phone phone and internet provider will be changed, I know one where I can save 40% to what I pay now.
Anything I make from selling Kaszazz or my craft products will go into replacing the stock and then straight into savings.
All $5 notes go into the money box as well as anything below 50c.

So just with the figures I know now as I cannot control how many $5 notes I get at the store etc.
I can save $120 a week, I know that's only $480 in the month but it is a stepping stone, it is progress.

If I can manage to put $75 a week into savings and my husband puts $150 a week into savings (since he earns more) that is an additional $225 a week making our savings at least $345 a week totalling at least $1380 a month ...... maybe it is possible!

It will take us lots of sacrifices and changes to be able to save the $75 and the $150, in todays world we are driven by temptation, it is easier to order pizza after a hectic day rather than cook in bulk and pull out a frozen meal. We can make the changes, we WILL make the changes, who knows as time goes on we will be able to save more, the girls will grown up and get part time jobs.

Since Claire will be 20 when we take the trip and at this stage she really wants to come I am going to ask that she pay for her flights at least, if she has a job she is more than welcome to chip in more. I figure since she is an adult by then she should have some responsibility towards the trip.

Obviously I have to make some purchases to be able to save money, I have already built the raised beds for the veggie garden but I need to compost, I need to buy a new chest freezer to make the bulk meals.

I will shop second hand where I can either on buy, swap, sell pages or Op shops. I will cut down on what we own and sell what is worth anything and donate where I can too.
I will resist the urge to buy new linen if I don't need it, unless it is broken it won't be replaced, I will not fall into the latest and greatest fads.

Money will be spent on education, after school care no doubt once I start working but once I am working we will be on a better income and that won't be possible for a while since the cost of daycare and then next year kinder hours don't make it flexible enough for me to work so 2016 I start my course for community services work and then hopefully gain employment from that as the job is flexible enough to work around my doula work.

So those are my money saving plans so far, cross your fingers we can pull this off!!

Meeting family for the first time every in ........ CANADA!

Canada is actually going to be the most settled part of the whole trip I think, we are mostly going to hang out with my family who I have never, ever met! They all live in Ontario. I will also hopefully catch up for coffee with the amazing and inspirational Deana, such a strength this lady has it is truly amazing, I "met" her when I did my StillBirthday course and I just adore her.
We will also catch up with the fan-tab-ulous Stephanie, thankfully all these people live relatively close together and Stephanie is an amazing nail tech and she WILL be doing my nails and I am guessing the girls nails too.

BUCKET LIST
Eat Bacon pancakes at Saving Grace
Visit Niagra Falls
Visit Victoria Park

See a very short bucket list for Canada because I am going to hang out with my family so much.

New York! The city seen from the Queensboro Bridge is always the city seen for the first time, in its first wild promise of all the mystery and the beauty in the world.” ― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

First State off the ranks is New York since we are working our way from one side to the other. The plans will probably change a million times before we actually make it to the great American shores but for now this is my dream. We will get to New York, I have already sourced a cute little backpackers for us to stay at because the cost of this trip is astronomical I want to save where and when I can.
The New York list also includes Massachusetts because that will be a one dayer to watch a baseball game at Fenway and meet the beautiful Melissa.

 THE BUCKET LIST
Drink at The Way Station - a bar with a TARDIS come on what is not to love! It is a must and hopefully the TARDIS is still there as this is the attraction for us!

Visit Central Park - ever since Stuart Little I have wanted to visit this park.

Visit Time Square - does this really have to be explained? Besides Sex and the City it's one of the first things people associate with New York.

Shop on 5th Avenue - this may mean window shop but a girl can dream right?!

Ride the subway - because they have subways!!!

See the Statue of Liberty - I want to see how big it really is.

Visit Ground Zero - because although not living in America 9/11 had a HUGE impact on the entire world, I still remember exactly where I was when the News announced the first plane had hit. I was in Mr O'Donnel's Chemistry class.

Shop at Macy's - it is in nearly every American movie that is set in New York, plus it has 2 floors of shoes, I am there for the shoes!

Go to Carlo's Bake Shop - I love the show, I love cake - winner!

Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art - I love Art so this is a must for me.

Hail a cab in New York - Just because it is so different to here.

Have coffee at Central Perk - I was a HUGE friends fan back in the day so this would be pretty cool.

Drink at McGee's - this is the bar that McLaren's was based on in HIMYM

Again this list may grow, it may change but for the moment this is what I want to do while in New York. I'm sure I'll also be trying a hot dog from the cute little sidewalk (must get used to saying sidewalk, nobody will understand footpath I don't think) vendors. I have no doubt my husband will HAVE to eat cheesecake in New York. Food is a huge reason I want to visit the US, the food and culture just attract me so much. I certainly want to experience the street food.
